How small businesses can get started with online advertising

Are you a small business owner who wants to get started with Google Ads, Meta Ads or TikTok Ads? If so, you’re not alone. These pay-per-click ad platforms are powerful marketing tools that can help your business grow, but they can also be overwhelming when you don’t understand them. In this blog post, I’ll provide some tips on how to get started with ads and make the most of your ad campaigns.

Set Goals and Define Your Target Audience

Before you even create an ad campaign, it’s important to set goals and define your target audience. What do you want to accomplish with your ads? Are you looking to increase brand awareness or generate more leads? Once you have an idea of what you want to achieve, it’s time to determine who your target audience is. By understanding who your potential customers are, you can create better ads that will be more effective in reaching them.

Choose the Right Campaign Type

There are several different types of campaigns available on each platform, so it’s important that you choose the right one for your business goals. For example, in Google Ads, if you want to reach high-intent users, then a Search campaign is likely the best option. If you want to show ads on specific websites or apps, then a Display Network campaign would be ideal. Be sure to research all of the different campaign types before making a decision on which one is right for you.

Create Engaging Ads

This is the step that’s too-often overlooked! Once you have chosen the right campaign type and set up your ad groups and targeting, it’s time to create engaging ads that will draw people in. Your ads should be attention-grabbing and include relevant keywords so they appear in the right searches / in front of the right users. You should also make sure that each ad has a clear call-to-action so users know what action they should take once they see your ad (e.g., “Visit our website today!”).

Time to get started!

Paid ads can be an incredibly powerful tool for small business owners looking to grow their businesses online. With these tips in mind, hopefully getting started with Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, etc. won't seem as daunting as it initially appeared. With some strategic planning and creative ad design, small businesses CAN use ads for successful digital marketing campaigns that will drive leads and sales effectively.
